Ciao! My name is Riccardo, and I’ve been playing the piano since I was five. Music isn’t just something I do - it’s a part of who I am.

So begins the remarkable story of Riccardo Baldini, classical pianist, innovator, and co-founder of Resonate Adaptive - a groundbreaking solution born from adversity, driven by passion, and destined to change the way we think about music and accessibility.
 

In 2019, Riccardo’s life took an unexpected turn. A spinal cord injury left him paralyzed from the waist down, abruptly ending his ability to play the piano in the traditional way. For any pianist, the loss of pedal control would be unimaginable. For Riccardo, it was devastating.
“Paralysis means the loss of many things,” he reflects. “But for me, losing the ability to play the piano the way I had always done was one of the most difficult losses, and something I was determined to overcome.”
 

That determination became the seed of an idea. Teaming up with Steve Bosch, a mechanical design engineer, Riccardo set out to develop a solution that would allow pianists with limited lower limb function to regain full control of the instrument. The result? RESONATE, an adaptive, mouth-operated damper pedal system that brings the full expressive range of the piano back within reach.

By October 2022, Riccardo was back on stage for the first time since his injury, performing with the freedom and nuance he once thought lost.
“It was an unforgettable experience,” he says. “One that reminded me why I fought so hard to make this possible.”

But Riccardo’s mission doesn’t stop with his own return to music. With Resonate Adaptive, he is leading a movement to make music more inclusive for everyone. His story has already reached wide audiences through appearances in the CBC docuseries PUSH and AMI’s Mind Your Own Business, where viewers followed his journey of innovation, perseverance, and purpose.
 

A graduate of Italy’s prestigious G. Rossini Conservatory, with a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance, Riccardo is channeling his musical expertise and personal experience into a powerful message: access to music should not depend on physical ability.
“Everyone deserves to experience the full potential of music,” he says. “With the right tools, we can empower musicians of all abilities - making the world a better place, one note at a time.”
 

Today, Riccardo is more than a performer. He’s a passionate advocate for inclusive design, a creative force in adaptive technology, and a voice for a more accessible future in the arts. Through Resonate, he’s not just reclaiming his music - he’s giving it back to others who never thought they’d have the chance.
